Celebrating our Bear Cottage Superheroes

Celebrating our Bear Cottage Superheroes

Superhero Maxie

At Bear Cottage, we know that superheroes don’t just exist in comic books or on movie screens. They live among us – in every child who faces life’s hardest battles with courage and grace, and in every sibling who shows endless love and understanding, and in every family who finds strength in the face of the unknown.

Superhero Week is our way of celebrating these incredible children and families. It’s a time to shine a light on their journeys, to honour their strength, and to remind the world that true superpowers come in many forms – resilience, joy, connection, kindness, and love.

To our Bear Cottage families participating in Superhero Week this year, thank you for letting us share in your journey. You are the inspiration behind Superhero Week, and the true heroes in our eyes.

Meet our 2025 Superheroes

Maxie, a bright and social six-year-old, shows us what joy looks like – even in the toughest moments. Born with multiple diagnoses, he communicates without words and has overcome challenges most of us can’t imagine. His love for meeting new people and his radiant smile reminds us daily of the simple beauty in life. His siblings, Eliza and Theo, walk alongside him, seeing their brother as nothing less than a hero.

Superhero Eva
Superhero Eva and her family

Eva, now 15, was born after not breathing for 20 minutes and despite her early challenges, she has spent her life proving the odds wrong. With her keen eye-gazing skills and her love of footy tipping, she brings people together in the most unexpected ways. Her gentle spirit and radiant smile light up every room, while her siblings Natalia and Alexander embrace her with fierce love and unwavering loyalty. They’ve grown up knowing that difference is something to be celebrated.

Superhero Albie, with his sparkling blue eyes and love for music and movement. Living with a rare neurological condition, his days were filled with challenges – yet he continued to show the world how much joy could be found in a cuddle, a splash in the bath, or a kiss from his big sister Beatrix. As Albie’s big sister, Beatrix is the very definition of a superhero sibling – gentle, inclusive and wise beyond her years.

This Superhero Week, we hold Albie especially close in our hearts. Leaving us too soon, but with beautiful memories, immeasurable love, and a lasting legacy. Albie will be remembered as one of our bravest little superheroes, and we send our love and support to his courageous family.

These are just three of the countless stories that inspire us. Every child, every family who stays with us leaves a lasting mark on our hearts and they are the reason Superhero Week matters.

When we get our capes on, we’re not just dressing up – we’re standing in solidarity with our real-life superheroes and the families who walk this path beside them.

We’re raising funds to ensure Bear Cottage can continue to be a home away from home – a place of love, laughter, support and understanding and because, even the smallest superheroes leave the biggest footprints on our hearts.
